Privacy policy

Sawdust Smart (https://sawdustsmart.com) is a woodworking information site owned by Cody Lee. This page explains what information is involved when you visit the site and what we do with it. The short version: we don't run ads, we don't use analytics or tracking scripts, we don't set cookies, and we don't sell information.

Information we collect

When you browse the site

The site is a set of static pages. We don't use analytics, advertising, social-media widgets, or tracking pixels, and the site itself doesn't set cookies.

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information needed to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested, and the time of the request. Cloudflare handles that data under its own privacy policy↗ (external site, opens in a new tab). We don't use it to identify individual visitors.

When you email us

If you email us, we receive your email address, name (if your email includes it), and whatever you write. We use it only to read and reply to your message and to improve the site (for example, fixing a mistake you reported). We don't add you to any mailing list, and we don't share your message with anyone except as required by law. Email is delivered by our email provider, which processes it under its own privacy policy.

When you submit a reader build

If you email us photos of a project for our reader builds showcase (see Share your build), we receive your email address, the photos, and whatever you write, including your permission statement.

• What we publish: only what you've given us permission to publish — your photos (possibly cropped or resized, which also strips hidden photo metadata such as location), your description, and the name or handle and optional link you asked us to credit. We never publish your email address.
• What we keep: while your build is featured, we keep your submission email as our record of your permission, and the published photos are stored with the website's files. If we don't feature a submission, we delete the photos.
• Removal: you can ask us to remove your build or change your credit at any time by emailing hello@sawdustsmart.com, no reason needed. We'll take it off the site promptly and delete the photos we stored. We'll keep a short note of the request so we don't re-publish it by mistake. Copies made by others (for example, search-engine caches or web archives) are outside our control, but we're happy to point you to the right removal tools.

Newsletter

We don't run an email newsletter yet. If we start one, signup will be optional, we'll name the provider here, and every email will include an unsubscribe link.

Links to other websites

We link to stores, suppliers, and other sites (for example, on our Where to Buy page). Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we don't control. Our links aren't affiliate links and don't carry tracking codes; see our disclosure.

Images

All images on the site are served from our own domain. Pages don't load images or scripts from third-party servers. Reader build photos belong to the builders and are shown with their permission.

Children

The site is intended for a general audience and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

You can browse the whole site without giving us any information. If you've emailed us and would like us to delete your messages, email us and ask. If you've submitted a reader build, you can ask us to remove it at any time (see above).

Changes

If our practices change (for example, if we add analytics or a newsletter), we'll update this page and the date above before the change takes effect.
